Scúru Fitchádu emerged as an alter ego throughout all of the artist’s childhood memories, from dances to the stories his grandparents told him about their lives. Scúru, meaning dark, originated from all the social dilemmas tormenting the artist, mixxed with the musical happiness of the traditional african dances - Fitchádu - resulting in innovative and incredibly distinct work.

Bands such as “mão morta”, “fogo fogo”, “Bizarra”, and even international names such as “Tricky” or “The prodigy” influenced the growth and development of an artist who describes himself as “afro futurist” - the mixing of styles, mainly caused by the globalization from modern days, originated bold and imponent rhythms, that deep down, focus on one main topic: colonialism and the fight for human rights.

“A minha música vem de uma base politizada, libertária, mas de cariz pan-africanista sempre. Espelho-me muito nos grupos de revolucionários, na guiné Bissau, cabo verde, angola, toda essa parte das independências e do que foi a guerra, mesmo do outro lado do atlântico.” - Scúru Fitchádu - ( My music comes from a political place, liberal, but always pan-african related. I mirror myself in a lot of revolutionary groups, from Guiné-Bissau to Cabo Verde, Angola, all of those aspects of independence and what the war really was, even on the other side of the atlantic.)

After a demo and an album, Scúru is in fact a conceptual artist, dedicated to his roots. In the interview, Scúru reveals that he always looks forward to showing his work to those not familiar with it, keeping his audience sharp regarding all that is tradicion, and by always showing his inspirations in every single song or concert.

For those not familiar with the roots of African music, Scúru Fitchádu brings out the perfect arrangement between traditional and modern.
